Origami Lotus with Tealight: A Simple yet Beautiful DIY Project

When it comes to making a beautiful flower tealight, the type of flower you choose can make all the difference. Flowers with many layers and curved petals are definitely recommended for this project. One such flower is the lotus, which is also a symbol of beauty and prosperity in Indian culture.

To start, you'll need some basic materials, including colored paper, scissors, glue, and a battery-operated tealight candle. You can buy flower petals already separated and ready to use, or you can cut them out yourself from colored paper.

Begin by cutting out the lotus flower petal shape from your colored paper. To do this, fold your paper in half diagonally, then fold it again against the diagonal, creating eight folds total. Cut along the folded lines to create the petal shape.

Once you have all of your petals cut out, glue them together in layers, starting with the outer layer and working your way in. Make sure each layer is securely attached before moving on to the next one.

For this project, I used three layers of petals: two similar and one different. You can adjust the number of layers to create the look you want. Simply cut out more or fewer petals as needed, and glue them together in the same way.

Once your lotus flower is complete, attach it to a battery-operated tealight candle using glue. Make sure the petals are securely attached before lighting the candle.

To add an extra touch of elegance to your origami lotus with tealight, you can surround it with some glitter washi tape or other embellishments. I used these beautiful washi tape embellished tealight candles at the center of each lotus candle holder and arranged them around a simple green shaded readymade kundan rangoli (check out my tutorial for more information on this).

With your origami lotus with tealight complete, you can use it as a beautiful diya holder for Diwali or any other special occasion. Simply place the tealight inside the flower and light it up to create a warm and inviting glow.
